The tropical island of Sri Lanka, the island of balance, lies in the Indian Ocean. There is no better way to see and experience this paradise than from a motorbike on our Sri Lanka Motorcycle Tours, taking in all the sights, smells and sounds as we ride through on some of the most picturesque countryside on excellent roads. Soak up some sun on the beautiful beaches of the south coast. Ride through stunning scenery as we weave through the mountains of the interior, taking in regions sculpted by tea plantations, ruins of ancient civilisations and wildlife in abundance.Staying in hand-picked hotels and an amazing eco camp, drawing on our own experiences of the country, it will be the ride of a lifetime.
This is a road based tour and the roads are particularly good for Asia – no off roading experience is required. With a maximum of only 10 bikes per tour it will ensure a personalised and hassle free riding experience. From the moment you arrive we will take care of your every need, except items of a personal nature like alcohol etc. Your fuel, accommodation and meals are all included in the Sri Lanka Motorcycle Tour experience. Whilst on the Sri Lanka Motorcycle Tour, you will ride through and visit some of the most spectacular parts the island including the World Heritage sites as Dambulla, Knuckles and the National Parks.
Transfer to your beautiful beach hotel in Galle. This will be our starting point and eventually our finishing point. First group dinner will be later that evening.
Galle was built by the Dutch in 1663. With its wonderful collection of Dutch-colonial buildings it is a town of great beauty. Today, Galle is a city of trade, art and is full of boutique shops and cafes. Also do not miss the view of the fort and nearby beaches from the Japanese Peace Pagoda – simply stunning.
On the first long day of the tour we ride through the lush countryside of the south heading inland to Banyan Camp a beautiful eco retreat perched on the side of a lake in an area of outstanding natural beauty. A beautiful ride on great roads and with very little traffic.
Having woken to the sounds of the jungle we head out after a big breakfast for a day, which takes us past lakes and forests then climbs up to 1500m into tea country and the highlands of Sri Lanka. This is a ride, which goes through jungle, hills and plantations weaving through a magical backdrop of stunning scenery. We end our day staying at a stunning jungle resort. It’s a special place in a remarkable natural setting surrounded by pristine jungles, waterfalls and wildlife galore.
From the jungle we head to Horton Plains a high altitude plain of montane grasslands and cloud forests in the shadow of two of Sri Lanka’s highest mountains, before heading on to Nuwara Eliya a colonial hill station also known as ‘little England’.
Today takes us to Kandy the old capital of Sri Lanka, an unbelievable ride. These roads were built for motorbikes. Kandy is the seat of one of the ancient kingdoms of Sri Lanka and it is here that we will be having a rest day. Time to relax!
There are plenty of things to do or see here in Kandy, so whether visiting the Temple of the Tooth one of the most sacred Buddhist temples in the world, the botanical gardens, relaxing round the pool or exploring the restaurants and bars, the city of Kandy has it all.
We experience a more adventurous ride today as we head up into the Knuckles mountain range with a backdrop of mountains with truly amazing scenery and tranquility. It remains as an unspoilt nature reserve even today.
After the knuckles we descend onto the plains of the North East where we get the opportunity to open the throttle up on the roads heading to Dambulla a part of the cultural triangle. This area of the country is truly ancient and home to some fascinating places dating back over 2000 years.
Heading south we pass through national parks in what is a remote part of the country. There is the opportunity to see wildlife as you drive down a carpeted road that disappears into the distance. Ending up in Gal Oya a lodge set in the middle of the jungle an awe-inspiring setting.
We leave the peace of Gal Oya and head East to the East coast and Arugam Bay a beautiful sandy bay which has been a mecca for surfers from the 70’s. Full of bars and nightlife and beach time. This is a relatively short day as we want to take advantage of the beach and prepare for a long last day.
Finally, we head back to where we started, the southern town of Galle. This is a long day in terms of kms through ever changing scenery but a rewarding last blast to finish the tourand a chance to work up a healthy appetite for our final dinner.
